Arena 6 Lava Hound Deck

Arena 6 Lava Hound Deck

Hello my friends, I really want to share this Arena 6 Lava Hound deck with all you guys today because it is just awesome! Although this is a very nice deck, it is probably one of the more difficult decks I’ve played and even now I have not learn of all its intricacies. Its average Elixir cost is 4.4, very high, and you’re relying a lot on sacrificing early game tower HP in a way that it does not compromise your win. I have a lot of close wins or 2-1 wins with this deck. It is extremely difficult to maintain an advantage early game due to its high Elixir cost and, in extension, difficulty to rotate the deck to a suitable counter.

The Mini P.E.K.K.A has also won quite a few games for me. Making it sneak in and deal significant damage is no easy task and relies quite a bit on opponent distraction and Poison. Casting good Poison spells are also key to winning with this deck.
Now, I am not a good player, at all. I rely a lot of the opponent not knowing how to counter Lava Hounds well and their misplays to win with this deck. I can’t count the number of times I have misplaced the Inferno Tower just one tile off that allowed the Prince or a hog to sneak in 1000 damage. This has costed me a lot of games, but I’ve also managed to win despite trivial mistakes with non-trivial consequences. I am actually very glad that despite me making tons ofdumb mistakes and hesitating while sitting on 10 Elixir I still managed to win with this deck.

I pushed to Legendary Arena with:
  • Lava Hound: LV 1
  • Poison: LV 2
  • Elixir Collector: LV 5
  • Minions: LV 8
  • Mini P.E.K.K.A.: LV 5
  • Goblins: LV 8
  • Inferno Tower: LV 5
  • Wizard: LV 6
The Lava Hound is your main tank in this deck. Position it in such a way that it will avoid centralized buildings (at the edge of the map). Do not let it burst before reaching the tower. The enemy’s minion horde will do this readily. Either prepare arrows, poison, or bring in a wizard. The other major threat is the Inferno Tower. There is no good answer to an Inferno Tower if it is placed far in, but if it’s placed relatively close to the edge, let your Minions, Spear Goblins, and other cheap troops distract the Tower.
Poison Spell:
At tournament levels (mine is only Lv 2 so it doesn’t work), Poison is a good answer, offensively, to a Minion Horde (dies in two ticks) when your wizard isn’t available. It will also kill Princesses and other cheap troops (except Knight). It is also especially useful against Musketeer, Ice Wizards and Wizards, though it will not kill them, but it will weaken them enough to lower their counterpush potential. You can also trade a Poison with an Elixir Collector, though to get maximum value use it either defensively against a big push or as assistance to the Lava Houndand capture the Elixir Collector at the same time. You can substitute Poison with Freeze; IMO it is less versatile, but more offensive. The point of Poison is not to protect the Lava Hound, but to protect the Lava Pups. I make this mistake a lot but you should take care to use Poison when you are going to kill all anti-air low-health troops right before the Lava Hound pops. This requires impeccable timing but it will provide maximum value for your poison.
Elixir Collector: Be careful when using the Elixir Collector; don’t give your opponent a window of opportunity for attacking. Don’t play the Elixir Collector in the beginning if your deck lacks enough defensive components, unless the opponent plays it too. For best results place it behind the Arena Tower or between for a hog lure after cannon. Elixir Collector is a near-necessity in this deck due to the high Elixir cost.
Minions: The Minions are primarily used defensively or as assistance to the Lava Hound to distract Inferno Tower, or kill Cannons/Bomb Tower to allow a Mini P.E.K.K.A / Wizard to sneak in without damage. Try to use them on ground melee targets or ground ranged that are preoccupied with the Lava Hound.
Mini P.E.K.K.A: Mini P.E.K.K.A is the most efficient counter to Royal Giants in the current meta, and also pretty powerful against ground troops during a push. It can easily sneak in a few hundred damage on a crown tower, but those circumstances are rare. You can substitute Mini PEKKA with Valkyrie for better counter to Barbarians, at the cost of being slightly more vulnerable to Royal Giants. Mini P.E.K.K.As can also stall Prince and DP for a bit, but valks are definitely better at this. When facing a fast cycle hog deck you’ll at times need to use Mini P.E.K.K.A against the hog instead of cannon.
Goblins: Extremely cheap and useful counter against a lot of decks. It is especially useful in luring both Princes and P.E.K.K.As while dealing significant damage.
Inferno Tower: This is the counter to Royal Giants, Golems, and Princes/P.E.K.K.As. Due to the lack of Zap in this deck, you will need to either assist the Inferno Tower with Poison or Wizard in order to clear small troops used to distract the Inferno Tower. If using the Wizard, you must position the Wizard in such a way that it is appropriate to the opponent’s deck. If the opponent runs lightning, place the wizard nearer to the river but protected. If not, place the wizard between the tower and the Inferno Tower. The other problem is Freeze. Always assume a freeze if the opponent runs hogs/Princes+P.E.K.K.As. Be sure to have enough Elixir to provide an answer once the opponent drops freeze on the Inferno Tower.
Wizard: Best support to the Lava Hound, capable of melting minion hordes and do good damage to the crown tower. Due to the prevalence of Minion Hordes as the auto-counter to Lava Hound, Musketeers aren’t as good as the Wizard. The Wizard should also be used defensively against Barbarians, and swarm type troops. Barbarians are a great counter to Wizard, but they are incapable of dealing with the Lava Hound. In this case you need to assume that the opponent is going to run an immediate counterattack and prepare yourself.

Dealing With Counters

Musketeer / Ice Wizard / Wizard: If exposed (in front of the crown tower), send a Mini P.E.K.K.A to snipe the musketeer. Otherwise, ignore or drop a poison.
Minion Horde: Poison / Wizard.
Inferno Tower: Toughest counter to the Lava Hound. Drop Poison, send in Minions, and a Mini Pekka to snipe the Inferno Tower, if possible. If not, just drop a Poison and accept chip damage on the tower. Your Lava pups will kill the Inferno Tower reasonably fast and deal good damage to the tower if they don’t put an anti-air protecting the tower.
Arrows on pups Send in reasonably protected minions early. If they run a wizard in addition, you’ll need to rely on wizard and Mini Pekka to deal damage.
Cannon/Bomb Tower (against Mini P.E.K.K.A/ Wizard): Send in minions to snipe.
Barbarians (against Mini P.E.K.K.A/ Wizard): Send in Mini P.E.K.K.A first as a sacrifice, then wizard.
